a Brightside in-house development of a bio-based, mass timber, high quality co-living community
A niteceably empty street corner, previously occupied by a building at the brink of collapse. Once it caught our eye, we took it in our own hands to envision and develop a plan. Our ambition? Making a small contribution to the housing supply shortage in a high-quality and beautiful way - to benefit both young urban professionals and the city alike. Developing the project through our development branch, happycity, allowed us to implement our vision without compromise. The result is a spacious co-living building for 10 people, constructed with a CLT core, bio-based materials, and equipped with solar panels. Soon to be realised, the development will stand as a future-proof and green addition to Rotterdam’s urban landscape.

At Brightside, our passion is to improve our surroundings, constantly seeking opportunities to make our cities a better place. Whether we're cycling through the bustling streets of Rotterdam or strolling through quiet neighborhoods - our eyes are always wide open! It was with this spirit that on a routine walk with his two beloved Spanish podencos, Raf and Peer, Sander stumbled upon the ideal location for a new venture. Using our own development branch 'happycity' allowed us to breathe life into the project in a way that fits our mission: focusing on quality over maximizing square meter - of course, while remaining financially healthy.

“After the necessary discussions, we purchased the lot from the municipality, on the condition that we are going to realize beautiful housing here. To build in the middle of the city is not easy; it is relatively expensive, the contractor has limited space and of course it can be a nuisance for the local residents. We see it as our job to make the process run as smoothly as possible. "
