a contemporary take on the classical Dutch farmhouse, made to blend into the surrounding farmlands
Two clients dreaming of their own sleek, modern villa almost lost hope when they found out the zoning plan required a traditional structure with an oblique roof and bricks on their plot of land. What resulted was a journey to unite wishes of both client and municipality - finding the perfect balance between earthly tones and classical shapes, and spacious, open living spaces. A union of the old and the new: an ode to brick.

On the inside, bright and open living spaces are visually connected with the surrounding landscape, giving the clients the modern feel they desire. From the outside, its mansard roof, the large sliding door with a wink to the traditional barndoor and the traditional brick patterns are just a few examples that pay homage to the Dutch farmhouse of yesteryear.

The clients' ambition was not only to have their own dream house - but to build it themselves! At Brightside, we always strive to take our clients on a journey - but in this case we went an extra mile. To facilitate their wish, Brightside extensively guided John and Peter in the process, showing and explaining every detail of every corner of the design, in order to make them professional builders. It's fair to say we can congratulate them on a job well done! In the end, they even showed off their new dream home in the Dutch TV show 'BinnensteBuiten'.
We create spaces and like to explore new ways of working together. Getting a better understanding of human dynamics.
